Four men have appeared in a Moscow court facing formal terrorism charges in connection with the deadly attack on the Crocus City Hall concert venue. The suspects, identified as nationals of Tajikistan, were remanded in pre-trial custody. The assault, which involved gunmen opening fire on concertgoers and setting the building ablaze, is the deadliest attack on Russian soil in two decades, prompting a national day of mourning and a massive security investigation.

Suspects Appear in Court

The four individuals were brought to Moscow’s Basmanny District Court separately. They were identified as Dalerdzhon Mirzoyev, Saidakrami Murodali Rachabalizoda, Shamsidin Fariduni, and Muhammadsobir Fayzov. All four men showed visible signs of severe injury, with reports noting heavy bruising, swollen faces, and other marks. One suspect was brought into the courtroom in a wheelchair, appearing largely unresponsive throughout the proceedings.

The court proceedings were held behind closed doors. Following the hearings, the court officially announced that all four men would be held in pre-trial detention for at least two months as the investigation continues. This period can be extended depending on the complexity and progress of the official inquiry into the attack.

Formal Charges and Ongoing Investigation

The suspects have been charged with committing a group terrorist act resulting in the death of others, a charge that carries a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. According to Russian news agencies citing court officials, at least two of the suspects have admitted their guilt after being charged. The full extent of their alleged involvement is still being determined by Russia’s Investigative Committee.

Russian authorities had previously stated that a total of 11 people were detained in connection with the attack. The four men who appeared in court are believed to be the gunmen who directly carried out the assault. The search for potential accomplices, organizers, and financiers of the attack is a top priority for security services.

The Aftermath and National Response

The attack has sent shockwaves across Russia and the world. Rescue and recovery efforts at the destroyed Crocus City Hall have continued, with emergency crews searching through the rubble for victims. The death toll has steadily risen as more bodies are discovered in the wreckage of the concert hall, which was destroyed by a massive fire started by the attackers.

Security has been significantly tightened in Moscow and other major cities across the country in the wake of the tragedy. The incident has raised serious questions about the preparedness of security forces and has led to a fierce debate within Russia about the country’s internal security measures and immigration policies.
