Turkey’s Ministry of Interior has announced the successful conclusion of “KAFES-25,” a series of coordinated operations targeting organized crime syndicates across the country. In a statement, Minister Ali Yerlikaya confirmed that the raids, conducted simultaneously in nine provinces, resulted in the dismantling of two separate criminal organizations and the arrest of 20 suspects. The operations underscore the government’s unwavering commitment to combating illegal activities and ensuring public safety.
Nationwide Raids Target Crime Syndicates
The “KAFES-25” operations were meticulously planned and executed by provincial security directorates under the coordination of the General Directorate of Security’s Anti-Smuggling and Organized Crime Department. Raids were carried out in the provinces of İzmir, Kütahya, Batman, Gümüşhane, Amasya, Manisa, Kocaeli, Konya, and Isparta. This wide-ranging effort aimed to neutralize criminal networks that posed a significant threat to local communities through various illicit activities.
Two Major Organizations Dismantled
The operations specifically targeted two prominent crime groups. The first, led by Oktay Anar, was based in İzmir and was found to be involved in a range of offenses. These included armed threats, deliberate injury, damage to property, and violations of firearm laws. The syndicate was known for using intimidation and violence to assert its influence. The second group, led by Kadir Zeren and operating from Kütahya, specialized in usury, extortion through threats, and orchestrating attacks on businesses that resisted their demands.
Minister Yerlikaya Vows to Continue the Fight
In his announcement, Minister Ali Yerlikaya praised the law enforcement officers involved and reiterated the state’s resolve in this matter. “We will not allow organized crime groups, no matter their size or influence, to disrupt the peace of our nation,” he stated. He emphasized that the fight against these illegal structures will continue relentlessly until every last one is brought to justice and their networks are completely dismantled. This strong message serves as a warning to criminal elements and a reassurance to the public.
Seizures and Legal Proceedings
During the extensive raids, authorities seized a significant number of unlicensed pistols and shotguns, along with various documents and digital materials linked to the criminal activities. These items will serve as crucial evidence in the ongoing legal proceedings. The 20 apprehended suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, and the investigation aims to uncover the full extent of their criminal networks.
